This saddle was made for the course Sustainable Development. I choose to make my saddle in cork and recycled steel. I chose cork because it is a renewable source and the whole cork tree can be used. The tree converts carbon dioxide into oxygen and after being harvested it absorbs it five times more. Cork has a sustainable and ethical production and almost all cork comes from Portugal. I chose steel because you can recycle it an infinite amount of times and because you can get it from Sweden. This way the materials comes from within Europe.
Sketch made in illustrator how I want the saddle to look. That I then printed out to see the right size for the prototype.
The prototype is made in cibatool. Here it is roughly cut out and marked where the hole is supposed to be.
After using a rasp and sandpaper.
How the saddle looked after I had blasted the it to get a similar look to cork.
After the saddle had been painted with acrylic paint to get a similar look to cork.
